VIDEO

Thought I'd share this, with all of you. Just a little video made by the artist we're working with this year on Slow Boat, I'll paste the basic explanation below, but I'm super excited about it!

"Each year a contemporary artist is in residence with IYP, developing a programme of activities both on and off the boat. We are delighted that Navin Rawanchaikul is our lead artist for 2013. Inspired by his Thai and Pakistani heritage Rawanchaikul is planning our most colourful journey to date, travelling from Birmingham to the East Midlands, stopping off in Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. During this trip Slow Boat hosts Navinland, a floating campaign to find others who share his given name, Navin, with celebratory events along the route."

TILES

Today we started a new unit at college - Fine Art basically. The task we were given was to draw the room we're working in, then turn it upside down and put a portrait into it, then turn it upside down again and draw any object on top. I've got another 5 hours to work on it, but these tiled portraits are for the middle section of it - unfortunately its A1 so I can't scan it, but I'll somehow get a good picture of it in progress soon!

DESIGN

So, I've had my couple of days in wales, eaten faaar too much chocolate and generally good food so I now feel ever so slightly ill - not quite the result I was hoping for! This was a piece for a design unit at college, which had to be based on and convey an art movement. I chose Dadaism, and mainly worked with ideas from work by Schwitters - even popped down to the exhibition at the Tate Britain, which I helped to pack up a teeensy bit of whilst I was volunteering at Grizedale - it was only cardboard boxes, but STILL PRETTY COOL.

BOREDOM

So my easter holiday officially starts today (but I was off school all week last week too because we only had to hand in work, HEY 3 WEEK HOLIDAY) I'm off to wales at some point this week to see my grandparents, which will probably involve huge amounts of very good food and lots of relaxing, and I've set myself a bit of a challenge to get lots of artwork done, of which all this is the beginning. I've been quite happy all day today up in my room doing stitching and painting and doodling, so it's all pretty fab. In other news, found my ideal university - this is coming from the girl who has been avoiding the 'what course are you applying for' question for most of this year so far, so I really really feel like I've overcome a massive hurdle. Funnily enough I came across it on tumblr, on a blog run by its student, so its really kinda perfect!

LATE, AS ALWAYS

Sorry for my absence guys, it's submission week coming up and everything's been a bit crazy - I've basically broken up for easter, so I'm working like crazy to get everything ready to drop into college later this week - stressed doesn't even cover it! But, I've taken the time out today to a) make a start on the artwork I'm making for my Arts Award, and b) to go to an event about canals and wildlife and stuff. It's been raining like mad here, so I got absolutely soaked, but it was lovely to just take some time out for myself.

ORIGAMI

Screen printing today! There is a slight possibility I turned up at college today wearing a white skirt and shoes ready to print with navy and red ink, but never mind. I did these designs a few weeks ago as part of my textiles project, and I'm really happy with how they've turned out today, but I don't actually know how I'm going to incorporate them into my final piece of work - I think I'll hem them and put poles at the top and bottom so I can hang them on the walls!

WOOF

Sorry guys, the blog's been getting a bit photography heavy, hasn't it! Just a few pieces for my current photography unit basically, of my beautiful Labrador!

NEGATIVES

Just found this beauty whilst sifting through my iPhoto library..my negatives! (the ones that are horrifically out of focus are probably the ones I took - the camera kept taking me by surprise because the shutter button was being weird.) I've got another set that I'm going to go and get processed in colour tomorrow, so watch this space!
